GUY CAPLAN, CFA

Founder and CIO of Pilot House Capital Inc.

Guy Caplan, CFA is the founder and CIO of Pilot House Capital Inc. He has been an institutional investment manager for over twenty-three years, specializing in equities, credit and hybrid securities.

In 2009, he co-founded Raven Rock Capital, a multi-strategy North American credit hedge fund based in Chapel Hill, NC. Guy was Portfolio Manager and Chief Risk Officer. He was a managing member and on the board of directors which oversaw investments and compliance. The firm managed a Cayman based fund, a US domiciled fund, a Luxembourg registered UCIT and multiple managed accounts for Arrow Capital, of Toronto, Canada. Total firm exposure peaked at over $1 Billion in positions.

From 1999-2007 Guy was Managing Director and Portfolio Manager at Argent Funds Group, USA. He was the Portfolio Manager for the Argent Funds Group Low Leverage convertible arbitrage products and the Argentum Multi-Strategy Fund; based in Chapel Hill, NC and Greenwich, CT. He was also the Risk Manager for all of Argent’s convertible arbitrage products and a member of the Investment Committee. At their peak, investor capital under his management totaled over $3 Billion USD, with over $10 Billion in positions.

From 1998-1999 Guy was a Portfolio Manager at Connor Clark, Ltd. Toronto. The portfolio invested in the strategies of convertible arbitrage, quantitative arbitrage and risk arbitrage in US and Canadian securities. Previously, he was a proprietary global fixed income and currency trader at TD Securities, a proprietary equity-linked trader and salesman at Canaccord, Bermuda and a Trader / Sales person at Richardson Greenshields.

Throughout his career, he has been a speaker at conferences worldwide, including those sponsored by Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Absolute Return New York, GAIM USA and GAIM Dubai.

Guy holds an MBA from Queens’ University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of British Columbia.
